Just wondering if the government and the council bans diesel cars our bongos will be worthless and everybody will have extensions leads to charge their electric cars coming out of their flats from the 15 th floor !!! No doubt the poor man will have to pay for the upgrades

Technology will catch up once the demand is there. There are so many vehicles that have 'classic' or useful value that retrofit electric systems will be a huge market soon enough. All those classic VW campers aren't just going to get scrapped for a start. I think the people with full size campervans will be the ones to worry, how many of those are going to sell at £60k+ with this doubt looming over us? Personally I'd love to ditch the terrible Bongo engine in favour of an electric system. Less noise, no coolant worries, not having to drive at low speeds because the gearbox isn't designed for the van. Start saving now though because it will never be cheap to do that kind of work.
