A subject most people wont have a clue about. in the 70's and 80's EMI had toolrooms designing in metric and one BSF/BSW to use up the thousands of fasteners in stock.
Pre WW1 french manufacturers eg Peugeot used witworth hexagon bar from england to make metric threaded nuts and bolts.
